Content marketing is big, it's brilliant, and it's loved by marketers and the general public alike. But, unlike most popular trends, it isn't just for the rich and popular kids. I mean, yes, it is favoured by giant companies like Coca-Cola and Pepsi, but there's nothing stopping average Joes like me and you using it too!

So, how do you find the right content marketing agency for your small business?

Well first, you have to think about what you need. As a small business, I'm guessing you need an agency that:

 - saves you time
 - with low costs
 - and high results

Am I right?

So, now you just have to find a content marketing agency that promises the above points. Researching agencies and comparing them can take a lot of time, something that not a lot of small business marketers have, and all of the time and effort you do have is taken up by more pressing tasks.

Luckily, Wyzowl have done all of the research for you! So grab a coffee (or tea, if that's more your thing) and take five minutes out of your day to do the only research you'll need to when it comes to finding the right content marketing agency for your small business.

Saving Time

We know how vital time is to small businesses, and that's why we hate to be the ones to tell you this: content marketing will always take up some of your time.

The good news is, you have the freedom to choose an agency that will take up as little of your time as possible.

Content marketing is time-consuming for small businesses because agencies will require you to review your content marketing plan, and sometimes ask for your technical input to improve the message of the content. Once you have agreed on your plan, you will need to spend further time reviewing each piece of content as it is created. And, once you have approved it you will then have to post it online and distribute it to your social channels. Due to this demand for a lot of input on the content, and a lack of time to deal with it, half of B2B marketers have admitted to struggling to produce content consistently. This is the worst case scenario.

The best case scenario is an agency that will do most of the above things for you. Here at Wyzowl, we take pride in creating content marketing plans around the needs of our clients. We know that consistency is key when it comes to posting content and that's why we work with you to schedule content around a timeframe that suits you and your customers. We also save you time by posting the content online for you, and we even have the capacity to distribute your content on your social channels.

Low Costs

This is possibly the most time-consuming factor to research when looking for a content marketing agency, and also the most vital. Budget restricts everything in marketing, so it's important to find an agency that is happy to produce content for your budget and isn't trying to constantly up-sell you.

We compiled data from lots of content marketing agencies, and small businesses that use content marketing agencies, to find that almost 20% of people invested between $1,000 and $5,000 (approx. £700 - £3,500) on content in 2014. So content marketing can be achieved within a tight budget.

The problem with many content marketing agencies is that you have to commit to a contract of a few months worth of content. And, some of that content can be charged per word, or even per hour it takes to create it!

At Wyzowl, we recognised this and that's why we offer month-by-month packages as well as our monthly retainer package. We also offer one off content pieces which are perfect if you're still experimenting with what kind of content you want to put out there.

High Results

Just like with any marketing strategy, you need to be able to measure your content marketing efforts in order to see what's working, and what isn't.

The struggle that most marketers have with content marketing is that it requires a relatively large sum of money to be put down up-front (as we've seen above), and that can be frightening for a small business where cash-flow is tight.

If I were writing this article a few years ago, I'd probably tell you to be sceptical of content marketing agencies, but these days, the benefits of successful content marketing are proven, and plenty. In a recent Wyzowl survey, we found that 50% of people answered a firm yes to the question 'Does Content Marketing give you a Positive ROI?'
