A man who was much cleverer than me – and had a much better beard – once said: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” When it comes to creating an explainer video, your script is your crucial first step – and it’s arguably the most important!

In our latest video, one of our Copywriters, Michaela, gives you the lowdown on what it is that makes a great explainer video script.

Hi, I’m Michaela, one of the copywriters here at Wyzowl…and this video is all about what makes a great script for an explainer video.

The script is the most important part of the video making process, and I’m not just saying that because I write them! Think of the script as the foundation – a and without a good foundation your video may crumble and fall.

So what makes a great explainer video script?

1. Know your topic…

If it requires, do some research and plan which features you want to include and in what order. This will help to build a good structure to your video.

2. Don’t waffle on…

Aim to get what you want to say into a 1 to 2 minute window. Anymore than 2 minutes you run the risk of your audience losing interest and missing the all important call-to-action at the end.

3. Write for your audience…

Directly talk to your audience at a level they’ll understand. Long words and jargon aren’t always appropriate, unless you’re talking to industry experts, so always keep your intended audience in mind.

4. Have some fun…

The whole point of creating a video is to entertain your audience. And if you’re creating an animated video, you’re not limited by reality. So, use your imagination and have some fun when you’re writing the script.

5. Tell a story…

This is a great way to engage your audience, so tell a story they can relate to.

For example, introduce a problem they may be having, offer the solution – your product or service – explain how it works and then introduce your call to action. Which leads me to my final point…

6. Include a call to action…

This tells your audience exactly what you would like them to do next, whether it’s to download your app, visit their website, or to subscribe.

So there you have it the key steps to a great explainer video script. If you’d like a video creating we write the script as part of your package. So get in touch to have a chat!
